One, one is true and I’ve always said is that I wanted people to stop, ask if I could doing math. Thank you for having me.
He is the Chief Investment Officer of Asset and Wealth Management at Goldman Sachs. He’s a member of the management committee. He co-chairs a number of the assetmanagement investment committees. trillion in assets under supervision. At the end of 2008, we owned a lot of illiquid assets.

She has a really fascinating background, very eclectic, a combination of math and law. Eventually leading her to a point where she’s managing quants, running about a hundred billion dollars in assets. You, you get a, a BS in Mathematics and a JD from Boston University Math and Law. Not the usual combination.

She is Head of North America Investments for Citi Global Wealth, which is a giant wealth management arm of the giant Citibank. They run over $800 billion in client assets, and Kristen’s group, the North American Group, is responsible for about half of the revenue that that massive organization generates. I was econ and kind of geeky.
And before that, Morgan Stanley, doing technology and operations planning for the wealth and assetmanagement group. What percentage of the assets are in ETFs relative to mutual funds? So fast forward to where we are today, we have over $40 billion in assets under management. BERRUGA: You know, great question.
I want to get into that before we start talking about assetmanagement. So I, I did a math degree at Oxford, which is more pure math. So I, I did a math degree at Oxford, which is more pure math. You know, pure math can be very theoretical and detached from the real world, and it’s getting worse.
So if you start with the S&P 500 or in this case stocks and bonds, you only have two asset classes, right. So the proper benchmark for those pools has to look a little bit like the underlying assets they’re investing in. If you look at the types of assets that Yale invests in, you can create a benchmark for each pool.
That period very much encompasses Vanguard going from an admittedly successful, but not enormous entity, till I think the 2000s, especially the financial crisis, changed how people thought about managedassets, indexing, advisory versus transactional, and Vanguard, along with BlackRock, have been two of the biggest beneficiaries of this.
So like a component of it was like the standard derivatives math, right? And so like, you know, I got there and I learned derivatives math, right? It was derivatives math, it was like working with the traders on like riskmanagement. Like, like the, you know, like the accounting standards.
She is an author and former hedge fund trader, specializing in distressed assets. She was a partner and a portfolio manager at Canyon Capital, a firm that runs currently about $25 billion. MIELLE: Well, I mean, it was a fairly new asset class. New asset class for this type of investing as well. But it was very tiny.
So, the Portfolio Solutions Group advises mainly institutional clients on all kinds of challenges that they have and thinking about the expected returns, portfolio construction, riskmanagement, et cetera. You mentioned in the beginning of the book lower asset yields and richer asset prices have pulled forward future returns.
No income, no job, no assets were exactly ninja, Sean Dobson : No pulse seems reasonable. We see it as, like I said, about 50 million assets and we’re modeling up the value of every home in the country, every, every week, basically. We’re we’re the quant shop in real estate, in the quant shop in physical assets.
So, I did the math, 20 million times a hundred. This guy just hired me, the management of this trawler fleet to advise them on whether the management should exercise their legitimate right under the privatization program of Russia to buy 51 percent. So, let me just repeat the math. How many do you have in your fleet?
It’s, it’s no different But, but inherently in futures, a whole lot more leverage, a whole lot more risk. How fundamental was that to your learning about investing, trading riskmanagement, starting with futures? You’re doing a lot of math in your head on the Fly.
