The consensus is for the deficit to be $71.4 billion in August, from $78.8 billion in July.

Here are some things I think I am thinking about this weekend: 1) Pension Funds Underperforming the S&P 500. Here’s an article criticizing the poor returns in the San Francisco pension system. The fund has a target return of 7.5%, but has only hit that target in 5 of the last 10 years. Given San Francisco’s budget woes there has been some questioning of this allocation.
